Consuegra, a city rich in history, has become the site of an innovative project that merges cutting-edge technology with the preservation of its architectural heritage.
Using Leica’s RTC-360 and BLK2go laser scanners, we have successfully created BIM digital twins of some of its most iconic monuments, such as the Church of San Juan Bautista and the famous Bolero and Mambrino mills.
Technology at the Service of History
The process began by scanning the most detailed buildings using the static RTC-360 scanner. This technology enables the generation of a dense, high-resolution point cloud by scanning the exterior surfaces of the monuments from multiple angles. It’s like assembling a three-dimensional digital puzzle of each building, piece by piece, to achieve a complete and precise representation.
For the remaining mills, we opted for the BLK2go scanner, a dynamic device that allows us to move through the buildings while capturing the entire structure in a single pass. Although the point cloud it generates is less dense, it is still highly efficient for buildings that do not require as much detail, allowing for quick and accurate capture.
Why is This Process Important?
The point cloud generated allows us to create a digital twin of the monuments. This twin is crucial for carrying out ornamental lighting studies, simulations, and analyses that enable us to design precise interventions while respecting the historical value of each building.
Through this technology, we not only document the current state of the monuments but also ensure their preservation for future generations.
