Artificial vision, Fisotec’s tool for road maintenance

Artificial vision, Fisotec’s tool for road maintenance

Road maintenance is essential to ensure safety and efficiency in transportation. Unlike traditional methods, Fisotec adopts artificial vision, an advanced technology that promises to transform how road infrastructure is maintained, making it more accurate, efficient, and safe.

What is Artificial Vision and How Does it Work in Road Maintenance?

Artificial vision is a branch of artificial intelligence that enables machines to interpret and process real-world images. Using advanced cameras and sophisticated algorithms, artificial vision can identify road issues that are often difficult to detect by conventional methods. In the context of road maintenance, artificial vision is used for:

  • Automatic Anomaly Detection: Identifying potholes, cracks, and deteriorated signage.
  • Data Processing: The captured data is analyzed to inform maintenance and repair decisions.

Benefits of Artificial Vision in Road Maintenance

The benefits of artificial vision in road maintenance include improved efficiency and precision, as well as increased safety and sustainability.

  • Rapid Response: Immediate problem detection allows for quick intervention, reducing repair time and potential hazards.
  • Reduced Human Error: Automating the inspection process decreases the likelihood of human errors, ensuring a more reliable assessment of road conditions.
  • Safer Roads: Maintaining roads in better condition increases safety for all users.
  • Sustainable Maintenance: Optimizing resources and precise planning of repairs contribute to a more sustainable approach to road maintenance.

360º Inventory and Mobile Mapping Technology from Fisotec

Did you know that Fisotec’s algorithm has been previously trained with over 500,000 images for entity detection in urban and interurban environments (bridges, roads, highways, etc.)?

Indeed, and there’s more to it. Fisotec’s 360º inventory is based on Mobile Mapping technology.

After an initial phase of algorithm training, our technical team drives around mapping infrastructures through the recording of images and LiDAR point clouds, whether from a vehicle, drone, or other means, to geoposition the exact location of entities.

This service is completed with the delivery to the client of a GIS and Mobile Mapping platform, with the final goal of applying maintenance solutions in municipalities and cities.

Moreover, thanks to artificial vision and LiDAR point clouds, we develop and evolve our own algorithms based on object detection through AI applied to urban infrastructures, to achieve accurate automated geopositioning and verify their condition for maintenance, all in vertical and horizontal signage, urban and interurban roads, public lighting, green areas, sanitation networks, urban furniture, etc.

Furthermore, the magic happens with Ubiqua-IA. Ubiqua-IA is a platform that collects data inventoried through Mobile Mapping and, using automated algorithms, is capable of automatically geopositioning and determining the condition of entities. Thus, combining Artificial Vision and GIS, the end client has access to reports to carry out precise maintenance tasks in areas such as sidewalks, asphalt, vertical and horizontal signage, guardrails, rumble strips, and urban furniture.

As you can see, artificial vision is establishing itself as a key tool in the future of road maintenance. At Fisotec, we are committed to leading this innovation, offering our clients advanced solutions that not only improve the efficiency and safety of roads but also support sustainability and resource economy.

We want you to be part of Fisotec through our upcoming «Did You Know?» series. Feel free to send your proposals to hello@fisotecsolutions.com
